    - Speed limit in harbors: 3 knots; follow buoyed channels for safe navigation

  • CUSTOMS

    - Malta (EU member): Non-EU yachts must clear customs at Valletta or Marsaxlokk; fly ‘Q’ flag on arrival.


    - Temporary Admission (TPA) allows non-EU yachts 18 months VAT-free; S&D assists with customs formalities.


    - Crew must declare personal items; undeclared goods face fines or confiscation.

  • VAT

    - Standard VAT is 18% on goods/services; applies to charters starting in Malta.


    - Non-EU yachts under TPA may be exempt; S&D provides VAT compliance support.


    - Non-EU visitors can claim VAT refunds on purchases via Tax-Free forms, validated within 3 months.

  • VISAS

    - Schengen rules: Non-EU crew/passengers allowed 90 days in 180 without visa (e.g., US, Canada).


    - Non-EU crew need seaman’s discharge book for entry/exit stamps; otherwise, face Schengen limits.


    - S&D streamlines crew immigration via pre-arrival notifications.

  • ANCHORING

    - Anchoring banned within 200m of beaches or 100m of rocky coasts; fines up to €500 for violations.


    - Protected areas (e.g., Comino’s Blue Lagoon) require mooring buoys; anchoring prohibited to preserve seagrass.


    - Speed limit 10 knots within 1,000m of shore; tenders must use marked corridors.

  • OTHER RULES

    - Third-party insurance mandatory; policy details must be presented on request.


    - Sewage discharge banned within 12 nautical miles; holding tanks required for yachts post-2008.


    - Night navigation restricted in busy areas (e.g., Valletta); AIS mandatory for yachts over 300 GT.
